"Yarns and Fibers"
All Valley Winds yarns are creatively hand-spun and often hand-carded to achieve the unique qualities of a hand-spun. Every attempt has been made to assure accurate details about the yarns; however, there will be variation throughout. Unlike the predictability of machine spun, these yarns will inspire YOUR creativity and call forth your adaptability - just as home-spun did for your great-grandmother and her mother. Relish the diversity of it all. |

Each yarn and fiber is unique in color and style. These photos are samples of styles and are only available from our eBay store (link here to purchase.)

Hand spinning is a joy for me. It's quiet work and meditative - only the whirring of the wheel, the rhythmic sound of feet moving pedals, and the repetitive motion of hands pulling pinching and advancing the wool. There's a gentleness about it - and somehow a connection with times past when women (and men) worked the wheel as a part of their daily household chores. I honor them as I spin and am grateful to be a part of the long heritage of the fiber arts. I hope that some of that spirit is twisted into the threads that I spin.
Because the yarns are handspun in a non-commercial fashion, there is no consistent inventory in stock. The yarns are spun in the woolen fashion, making them lofty and soft. Almost all are two-ply for durability and spun into a worsted or chunky weight yarn. It has a somewhat uneven texture which gives it the character of handspun yarn. Please call me to see what I have in stock.

The fibers and rovings we have come from several sources - our animals, friends' animals, or fiber festival sources. All are hand selected. Because I use these fibers in my own spinning projects, the selection of type and amount varies all the time. Please call me to ask about what I have in stock. I'd like to hear from you anyway - chatting about fiber is always fun.(Our prices are very reasonable and worth a phone call)
